Reviews for "Dude, Your Mom's a Squid?"

As always we thank the people that took time to listen to our stuff and write words about it. This is a list of our favourite quotes and links back to the original articles. Translations are a mixture of Google Translate and Ted's ability to badly converse in many, if we make an error or change any meanings we apologise, it isn't on purpose!

"Earth’s most beloved musical team has paired up once again in an amazing feat of dexterity, musical prowess, and bizarre charm. Their new collaboration is not what we wanted… but what we deserved. “Dude, Your Mom’s A Squid?” takes us for a psychedelic ride after eating a dodgy slice of pizza... this song is an abrupt reminder that The Nasty Unicorns give zero fucks" @jpgchief

“The undeniable anthem for the summer”  #hailtunes

“Certainly one of the most avant-garde tracks we’ve heard this year, the record is an ode to the bizarre hallucinations that the mind conjures when you are tripping balls.  The track feels very 90s alt rock with some 70s funk infusion here and there.  It’s a bold vocal” @NecessOutlet

“If you close your eyes while listening to it, an extra-sensory trip is guaranteed” @edgarallabnpoets

"There’s no way to really describe it. You just need to listen to Dude, Your Mom’s A Squid? for yourself" @york_calling

“Following the brash grittiness of their punk meets grunge single ‘Mood Is Low’, the Unicorns splatter a wistful, whimsical pop sound across Nasty’s abrupt trip-hop in the new ‘Dude, Your Mom’s A Squid?’. Bare and completely vulnerable at its melodic core, 9 o’clock Nasty strips you to your bones with its hard-hitting beats reaching you at your most vulnerable; then I Am The Unicorn Head’s blanket of whimsical alternative pop hugs you close.” @theothersidereviews

“Dude, Your Mom’s A Squid?” presents the old school sound of rock’n’roll and the sensibility of modern indie, proving that they knew how to use all their influences and mix in a peculiar way to create their own identity in the music scene - and what an identity!” @headbangersnews_br

“Opening with a groovy drum beat, the synth and funky guitars take over. You have permission to revel in it for a minute, and the preaching begins. Not really subtle, the mushroom pizza might have been more potent than your ordinary Papa John’s…. 9 o’clock Nasty have nothing to prove any more, their genre is one that they rule with an iron fist.” @sinusoidal.music

“Dude, Your Mom’s a Squid?” is a psychedelic masterpiece. A mind-bending collaboration of musical prowess, storytelling and dry humour this track is really one-of-a-kind. I don’t think I can fully capture or translate the wonderful vibes and whimsical flights of fancy this single takes, but it is a truly spectacular experience that you must listen to!  @lostinthemanor_blog

“3 bad kids with a passion for rock, the real one, the one who knows that distorted guitars must dominate the scene.

But ... beware! In this latest single "Dude, Your Mom's A Squid?" there is a change of course, a U-turn (perhaps a parenthesis) that amazes us with irony and psychedelic setting.” @artistionline_playlist

“a single that delivers to the public a sound that goes through garage/alt rock, trip hop, hip-hop beats, vocal elements of rap and a lyricism that maintains the extroverted/fun trend of the band, now in partnership with I Am The Unicorn Head, also known among Brazilian and international readers of the site.” @gdltudosobremusica

“…steers more towards a dark-pop, psychedelic sound. …A track that is so far out there, it’s hard to come back from, Dude, Your Mom’s A Squid? is a great track that, for just under four minutes, will transport you away into a nonsensical, weird world, and return you to planet earth wondering what the hell just happened!” @themetalpriestess

“The track is highlighted by playful vocals, stiff break beats, and rugged synths. 9 o’clock Nasty’s new release, “Dude, Your Mom’s a Squid?” is a mind-bending alt-rock banger and the perfect addition to any indie playlist.” @senocular_media

“In partnership with I Am The Unicorn Head, they bring an indie rock synthesizer, which transports us to the 80s and 90s, a mixture of nostalgic indie pop, with the beats that involve us and make us want to dance. The vocal sings softly, with a rhythm that flows naturally in our veins and the melody is engraved in our mind.” @indieoclock

“..blow away farty old-fashioned cock rock and corporate music reek… an atmospheric Dreamgaze foundation that reaches through the song like a thick mist. Funky guitar licks that remind of 9 o’clock nasty’s King Thing form a spinning kaleidoscope amidst this sonic mist.” @mangowavereviews

Dude, Your Mom's A Squid

A third instalment of weird with the psychedelic popsters  @iamtheunicornhead

We’ve all been there. You know the feeling, right?

You had something dodgy on that pizza and the next moment you meet god AND HER MOTHER'S A SQUID. It all makes sense.

For one moment of clarity, you understand the universe. Then you throw up.

The summer of 2023 did not ask for a psychedelic masterpiece. It did not say “make the feel good hit of the summer be the strangest song ever recorded by humans and half-humans.” But as we are all gradually learning, you don’t get what you ask for, you get what you deserve.

Take the brutalist skeleton of beat built by 9 o’clock Nasty and layer it with sublime pop whimsy from I Am The Unicorn Head and you get the new single entitled DUDE, YOUR MOM’S A SQUID?  This time the Unicorn bring the  twisted logic and Nasty supply the kick, kick, bam to power a summer of ruthless hedonism.
