The Wrong Guy - Kingflame Sound System Remix

"Open the windows. Turn the dial”

This is the second release of our occasional series of Retreads - remixes of our songs by people we love. This is our first collaboration with the Kingflame Sound System.

Heavy dub beats smash at the doors of life. There are cracks in the world but there is no escape.

Some cuts run deep. We always knew it would come to this.

Inevitably the bassmasters, Kingflame, reached out, and when they ask, you do not step back. You lean in. You push out your chest and you accept your fate. They are human, but they do not operate at the same frequency as you, Kenneth.

So it was, Kingflame came for our newborn child, "The Wrong Guy" and took it away into the night. Seven days later they returned. With this creature. Writhing bass, slip-hit beats. Melody distilled from the walls. Walls that have heard so, so much.

So, here is. Yes, of course, the rational thing to do would be to release the original version of The Wrong Guy before the remix, but we do not live in rational times. We live where reality bends to the desires of the human mind. So here is the pre-mix. See what we did there? Pay attention, the original arrives in September.

Open the windows and turn up the dial. Let the pure joy of this song out into the summer air.

“9 o’clock Nasty is making a bold comeback with a daring move that seems fitting for the current times. Releasing the remix before the original version may appear unconventional, but as the Nasty say, we do not live in rational times.”

@rockeramag said “The band’s latest pre-mix instantly captivates you with its slip-hit beats, a jiggly bass, and an interesting atmosphere to which you cannot help but vibe to. You can right on spot and feel the post punk cool and chill kind of delivery paired up with this dark and detached vibe; yet, you are still interested and enjoying this hip and subtle cool feel.”

“One of the most interesting elements in this pre-mix is the use of guitar. We subtly get a reggae kind of feeling thanks to those rhythmic reggae snippets.”

@edgarallanpoets said “Kingflame’s production adds layers of complexity to the original track, creating rich texture that is chaotic and controlled”

“It’s clear from the start that this remix is something special. The beat is infectious, pulsing with a hypnotic rhythm that draws you in and doesn’t let go.”

@thisisapolloharp said “9 ‘o’clock Nasty to have progressive ideas that are equal parts playful and chaotic. They might not be known for their subtlety but they are quite masterful when it comes to sound design.”

“The boldness and the emphasis on big sonic gestures and grand detailing stands at the helm of their charm."
